London based rap collective Last Night In Paris have been making a name for themselves since their 2014 EP, Roses+, a record filled with dark, chilled-out beats that have drawn comparisons to A$AP Mob, Flatbush Zombies and The Underachievers. They recently collaborated with director Karim Huu Do on a short film titled “Pure” set between the concrete of London and the knotty countryside earlier this year which also gained the group attention. Now the group have dropped a new track entitled ‘Close To You‘ ahead of the forthcoming release of their new EP, PURE in November.
‘Close To You’ features Last Night In Paris members KC, Taurean Roye and Collard on vocals lacing together a laid back smooth R&B soundscape around their smoked out raps. “We’ve fully immersed ourselves in our next EP PURE and realised we had everyone waiting so we’re dropping a couple tracks a month until the EP lands. We’ve been sitting on this track for around a year and thought it was time to give our supporters something new.”
The multi-layered song is both dreamy and grounded; the production comes courtesy of CLBTS and rising London based producer and LNIP member Fwdslxsh. Last Night In Paris told The FADER “Our guy CLBTS sent us over an idea that samples Sampha and we sat down and vibed and layed down vocals till it became what it is now. Funny, actually, we met Sampha when we were recording the song in XL studios. He just bopped in, it was surreal. Fwdslxsh came through and did some additional production and finishing touches to give it that extra vibe.”
