UK hip hop artist Ayar returns with a new video for his track ‘Eastern Sliding‘, taken from his EP Off The Corner, which has released earlier this year. The track brings his lyrical prowess with traditional hip hop beats to bring together a track that takes him to his roots without making it overtly corny or dramatic. Ayar relies on his words in both production choice, lyrics, and even the accompanying visuals. Over the past 18 months, the East London rapper has gained support from MTV UK, GRM Daily, Bang Radio, Channel AKA, SB.TV and the MOBO Awards [Ayar was one of the 2014 MOBO Unsung finalists].
The video was shot in Canning Town [where Ayar was born and raised] and directed by fellow one50 cohort Manny Grey. The ‘Eastern Sliding‘ visuals capture the essence of real life in East London, with its expansive use of vignettes and suitable aesthetics. According to Manny Grey;
“the visuals are an ode to a borough that made us who we are today. We’ve lived through its evolution, and our growth as brothers is heavily tied to the growth of our borough, which is coming into its own, like a phoenix from the ashes”.
These new visuals allow us more insight into the life of the East London rapper and carry on the effective workrate that started with Off The Corner. Commenting on the inspiration for his new mixtape, Ayar reveals that; “It began to take shape once I returned from university last year. Having been away for three years, the feeling I had when I moved back to London was quite empowering. The past 12 months made me reflect on what brought me to this point in my career, hence the title ‘Off The Corner’ – the word ‘corner’ describes where I started from and the word ‘off’ represents the growth and transition of the process”.
