Since dropping his City of God EP last month, Robert Mavro is steadily becoming a name that you should know. City of God [which premiered via RWD] featured the likes of Oliver Jones, Ken MST, Zulu and Vanessa Hartley and Robert himself was praised for his “soulful and laid back flow over a variety of organic, sampled based production hailing back to hip-hop’s golden era”.

Today, L Ø S T  C U L T U R E brings you the brand new visuals from Robert Mavro for his track ‘Along The Night‘ alongside Oliver Jones. Ahead of the premiere, we sat down with Robert to discuss his thoughts on his latest project, the process behind the video and what we can expect to hear from him in the next 12 months…

Your latest project City of God EP dropped a month ago, what was your main thought process behind that project and are you happy with the final product?

The City of God project is a bit mad. It’s mad simply because it’s named after my favourite movie – if you haven’t seen that go check it out! – but it’s got nothing to do with it. It’s also mad because most of the titles of the songs on the EP will make someone think that there’s some sort of religious connotations behind the project when there’s none at all. To tell you the truth, when I started the project, there was no main though process behind it. I just wanted to get good authentic music out people could vibe to. I always wanted to call my first project City of God which I did and I’m lucky all the other parts of the puzzle fell together in place. I’m real happy with the final product. The project was completed about a year and a bit ago and for it to be getting love today and for people to be vibezin’ & chilling to it is a real blessing *no pun intended* lol

So you are premiering your new video ‘Along The Night’ [feat. Oliver Jones] with us at Lost Culture. How did you go about putting the video together?

The whole video thing was mad. It felt like we planned it on Friday and started shooting on Saturday but I guess it was a case of the early bird catches the worm and all that jazz. Myself and the Golden Age Babies guys met up with a director called Naushervan Shad. We liased with him and gave him some ideas of what we envisioned when we listened back to the track and he produced a dope treatment which everyone was happy with. Finding a location is usually the most frustrating part of shooting a video but fortunately for us, we were using one of the GAB members spare yards which was empty for 3 weeks before the new tenants moved in so in hindsight we had plenty of time to shoot the video. Nevertheless, the final product was cool

It looks from the video that everyone looks like they’re having a lot of fun. Any behind the scenes stories you can share?

Man.. to tell you the truth I can barely remember the night man! It was definitely a wavey one though lool. It was basically a filmed house party and because the yard was in such an awkward location, I had to run from A to B too many times collecting my bredrins to reach the motive. there were bare drinks and people came with their own so we didn’t really have a drought. There were also bare other dope artists too such as Gerald Jacobs and Ken MST. In fact, I’m sure there’s a cypher video somewhere I should send to you guys! Drunk rap at it’s best haha.

Finally, what do you have planned for 2016 and what can we expect next from Robert Mavro?

I don’t wanna say too much but at the same time I don’t wanna sell myself short. I’ve got loads of ideas for the coming year but the main thing you can expect from me is consistency. Consistency within my tracks. Consistency within my lyricism. Consistency with the videos I’m going to drop and consistency within the projects I will be releasing. The main aim in 2016 is to be everywhere so much so that people can’t ignore you even if they want to. I wanna be in people’s faces with dope music. Hopefully with the projects I plan to release and with the artists I’ll be working with, 2016 will be a big year!
