Spike Lee x 40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks – “CHIRAQ” Trailer
Legendary socially conscious director Spike Lee releases the trailer to his upcoming epic “CHIRAQ”. After spending the past couple years pulling together an all-star cast, writing and shooting, it’s nearly the time for the release of the film with Chicago’s notorious nickname. For those who don’t know, the name relates to how Chi-town as a city has had a terrible increase in murders, similar to the number (if not more) to the fatalities in the Iraq war. Hence the nickname was born. Hinted by the title and trailer, this subject will be touched on throughout the film, also including current relations between blacks and the police. Also highlighting gang violence and life in the Chi,Spike is famous for his ability to demonstrate social issues in an “entertaining” way. They certainly didn’t hold back on this film, with a fantastic cast including Nick Cannon, Teyonah Parris, John Cusack, Samuel L. Jackson, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Jennifer Hudson,La La Anthony and more. There has been a mixed response since its release, see some of them here.
