Portuguese born music producer, rapper, singer & songwriter Claudio Marques found his passion for music during childhood. Since bursting onto the scene in 2013, he has released a string of successful releases from ‘Realest N*ggas‘ to ‘#TRILL‘. Now in the lead up to the release of his upcoming project Overthinking [due out on the 15th December], L Ø S T C U L T U R E premiere his latest track ‘Kamikaze‘. We caught up with Claudio Marques and got his views on his journey in the scene and what we can expect from Overthinking;
Tell us a little bit about yourself and why you decided to make music?
No nicknames, I guess people don’t know me as any other name other than my real one which I decided to take on as my stage name ‘Claudio Marques’. I’m 20 years old and I was born in Lisbon, Portugal. I had music in me, in my blood, since a young age. My family come from Cape Verde, where families are very music orientated.
You’ve previously supported the likes of Busta Rhymes, Ace Hood, Method Man & Redman on tour. What have those experiences been like and what is your most memorable moment?
They have been powerful moments, as they’ve motivated me to go get that success harder and than I’ve ever done before! At some points I felt as if my dream had come true. I remember sharing few deep words with Ace Hood back stage, he motivated me a lot, he is a really humble guy.
Your latest track ‘Kamikaze’ is premiering today via Lost Culture today, tell us a little bit about the track and you want people to take away from it?
‘Kamikaze‘ was actually the last track I recorded for Overthinking. I was at home thinking of this dope topic ‘kamikaze’ (willing to die for what I believe in). So I got hold of my phone and quickly called Lory Beatz; 30mins later Lory gets back to me with this heavy beat, I just had to go in with it! The purpose of this track is to introduce a new side of me to my music supporters, they’ve always heard the calm ‘wavy’ side of me, so I had to jump on a trap beat to surprise some ears!
Who are you currently listening to and how would you love to jump on a track with?
Right now I’m really into Kendrick Lamar! I think he’s a dope ass rapper, from his lyrical content to the flows, and if I could chose someone to jump on a track with right now it would definitely be him!
You’re due to drop your next project Overthinking, what can people expect from the release?
For the people who have not read into the concept of overthinking, y’all can expect to hear an introduction of myself to the world through my different shades of thoughts. Furthermore I’ll be revealing my persona and the world I live in. Overthinking touches upon different aspects of life: Family, Love, Money, Sex and the negativity that comes along with the happiness.
With 2016 around the corner, what do you have planned next for the upcoming 12 months?
I wouldn’t like to reveal that type of information just yet as I love surprising my people, all I can say is that 2016 will be a big year for us and I am wishing every single up and coming artist ‘good luck’, only those putting that work in will attract success!
