It’s been almost a year since A$AP Mob founder and rap tastemaker A$AP Yams passed away. Since then, A$AP Mob and the entire hip hop community at large have done well to memorialise A$AP Yams. The latest commemoration of Yams’ life is a book called “A$AP Yams Gems Book,” which compiles the most notable of his famously outlandish, all-caps tweets. Known for his unique and humorous timeline notes, Steven “A$AP Yams” Rodriguez poked fun at his lifestyle on his Twitter, which carries 98,000-plus followers;
“IN THE CLUB ASKING BITCHES IF THEY WANNA COLLABORATE ON A THINK PIECE WITH ME.”
The book was created by Bronx native and artist Ajani Brathwaite who told Billboard; “My inspiration for making the book was to make the Internet tangible. We’re all on the Internet all day tapping away on our touch screen phones. I had this idea of turning the virtual world into something real; Something you can hold and feel.” He added; “I chose A$AP Yams because of the role he had in shaping today’s pop culture & because of his off-the-wall – yet, genuine – tweets.”
The compilation retails at $40, with all of the proceeds being donated to Yams’ family, and is currently available for pre-order, being released on Yams Day [January 18th]. Keeping Yams’ memory alive, A$AP Rocky and Joey Bada$$ are headlining the Yams Day tribute concert scheduled to take place at New York’s Terminal 5.
