As with the beginning of any year, music and media outlets put together lists of people who they think will achieve success over the coming year and 2016 is no different. From BBC‘s Sound of 2016 to i-D Magazine‘s Class of 2016, predictions are made on what artists and musicians will “breakthrough” and be recognised as such by the time Christmas rolls round again [only 351 days left to go!]. One name that pops up on a number of lists for their range of talents and avenues of creativity is the Neverland Clan. The South London’s self proclaimed “working class rockstars” are a group of individuals who in 2015 saw them celebrated their work on art, design, music and performance. From Ryan Hawaii’s limited edition collections; to a joint EP with Omelet; a Neverland Clandebut at the Boiler Room and Ryan being commissioned to design Skepta’s Dressing Room at Red Bull Future Underground show, it seems that 2016 might just be their year.
One of the standout stars from Neverland Clan is DanielOG whose music is unshameably British and has an authenic and raw feel to it. The rapper dropped his EP Art Attack in November of last year and its has been already been streamed over 50,000 times on Soundcloud. He described the EP as “an attack on artists who don’t have their own unique sound” and is keen to remain fresh and an alternative to others within the scene. His latest track and video ‘Plan‘ showcases his uniqueness in a trippy, almost hallucinogenic video provided by Black Anubi$ which sees DanielOG and the rest of the clan on the roads and also shutting down a rave with a rendition of the title track. Skepta, friend and fan of the rapper gave his seal of approval, tweeting the video as well picking his favourite lines from the track;
