Dizzee Rascal Talks The Past, Present & Future Of Grime on Hot 97

January has seen the return of a lot of big names, with Wiley and Kano collaborating on ‘3 Wheel Ups‘ and D Double E annoucing a tour in Canada. Now, UK star and grime pioneer Dizzee Rascal is doing the rounds in America. This week, he dropped by Sway in the Morning and killed his 5 Fingers of Death freestyle, showing that he hasn’t lost it, despite not releasing a project of work since his 2013 release The Fifth. Now the UK legend has dropped by Hot 97 to chill with Peter Rosenberg for an exclusive interview.

Dizzee Rascal spoke on the origins of grime, his early interests in Drum & Bass, his friendship with Skepta and embracing a new generation of grime fans. Dizzee is no stranger to the US, working with the likes of Bun B [‘Where Da G’s‘] and freestyling alongside Wyclef Jean in a recently unearthed 2003 freestyle via Tim Westwood. Pete Rosenberg is also not new to grime as a genre, hooking up with Stormzy for Bagels And Shots and interviewing Skepta back in 2o15. The interview, as with his recent one with Sway, is a real insight into the rappers life and his outlook on the current scene. He also confirmed that he has started work on a new album, which we can expect later this year.
