Following a cryptic promotional campaign with clues sent to fans via daily telegrams, upcoming Canadian star Jazz Cartier drops his latest project, Hotel Paranoia. After releasing tracks ‘Opera‘ and ‘I Know‘, expectations were high to see what Cartier would deliver and he sure didn’t disappoint, hooking up with Lantz on production. The lone feature on the project comes from River Tiber on ‘Tell Me‘.
Hotel Paranoia follows up the Toronto native’s stand-out Marauding In Paradise, with 16 tracks that continue down his dark and expansive path. Musically, this is an expansion of the severe “cinematic trap” Cartier and Lantz are known for. But on first listen, it becomes clear in his lyrics that the stakes are higher for Jazz this time around. On album opener ‘Talk Of The Town‘, he pulls no punches whatsoever: “Everybody in the States compare me to Drake/’Cause there’s not many in the city who can carry the weight/Y’all got it wrong, dropping 2 or 3 songs, tryna get a little buzz and get carried away/I’m in it for the long run, you only in it for the wrong one.”
Here’s what Jazz Cartier had to say about the project, via Instagram:
“9 months ago we dropped Marauding in Paradise but to me it feels like forever ago. In between all the tours, and shooting videos I always found time to make music instead of photo shoots and waiting for things to happen. Everything about this was very well thought out. Now it’s time to embark in another chapter with Hotel Paranoia. Thank you to @deaddilly for the vision. Thank you to my brother @rivertiber for being apart of this. And lastly, thank you to my brother @lantzmusic for everything I’m forever grateful. Most importantly, this is for Toronto because without you I’m nothing. Forever the Golden Child, now I’m the Prince. #HOTELPARANOIA”
