The embodiment of elegant eighties chic, Lanvin AW 16/17 was the first collection since the departure of Alber Elbaz and the arrival of new fashion figurehead Chemena Kamali. A similar situation will face Dior.
The collection itself has received a lot of negative press, described as lacking the elegance that long term fans of the brand have come to expect. Whilst, Kamali paid tastefully subtle homage to Elbaz through the utilisation of jacquards and ruffles. The burnt orange and peachy sheen were pleasing to the eye. Even the fabrics and the colourations worked well together, however they gave the impression that it was a rushed effort.
The lace blouses and dresses embracing what’s being dubbed, ‘new romance’ trend featuring the aforementioned jacquards to contribute in creating an ethereal silhouette. Hoping to cater to a wide range of tastes, Kamali created white bustier tuxedos, embellished stilettos and evening gowns.
It seems Lanvin perhaps may have created too many looks instead of working together in cohesion, they showcase an indecisive mix-match collection. It could be the new creative minds still finding their feet within the brand. Lets us know your thoughts by leaving your comments below.
