Over the past 8-10 months, Sheffield duo Sticky Blood have been impressing both fans and critics alike with their impressive string of releases. From ‘Professional‘ to ‘Getaway‘ [feat. Hekky], ‘Balance‘ to ‘Valium‘, the pair have shown that they can tackle any genre and aren’t afraid to try something new. They have also worked with an impressive list of artists including Coco, Hekky, Tom Prior and Terri Walker. When we spoke to Sticky Blood back in 2015, they commented that “[were all about] progressing and working with as many people as we can”. Their latest release ‘Garn Again‘ blends elements of grime and R&B, samples an infectious R&B hook and features MCs Snowy and Yxngz.
The adventurous and explorative characteristics of the track are exactly what identifies this as a Sticky Blood production. Nottingham MC Snowy drops a powerful verse filled with punchlines as he gives a nod to the grime scene forefathers as he thunders over the beat like a juggernaut and Yxngz provides a soft, harmonious hook before slipping in to a melodic emcee offering in the final verse. It’s not an easy balance to strike; silky R&B vocals with tougher-than-tough bars but, backed by Sticky’s whiplash production, they manage it. Sticky Blood are becoming increasingly known for pelting out releases at a staggering rate—let’s hope it continues with some more vocal collaborations.
