After the personal drama from earlier this year, R&B singer Kehlani seems to finally be shifting gears to focus on her music. And from what we’ve heard so far, its sounds promising. Yesterday saw the release of ‘Distraction‘, the follow-up to last week’s ‘CRZY‘ is an palatable single that mixes modern trap percussion with the airy melodies of late-’90s R&B.
The soundscape plays out like an ocean of swirling highs and lows, with the Bay Area singer surfing her way through the middle, riding a confident delivery that’s bound to help listeners break a sweat in all the right ways. Produced by Pop & Oak, the R&B track finds Kehlani looking for a casual relationship with a man who can give his time, but “not wanna be mine.”
The Tsunami Mob songstress recently teamed up with Belly to shoot a video for their collaboration ‘You‘ and can be heard on ‘Gangsta‘ off the upcoming Suicide Squad soundtrack. The wait, however, continues for Kehlani’s rumored debut album. It would be her first project since last year’s You Should Be Here, which was billed as a mixtape. She has been teasing the project using the hashtag #SSS.
