LOST CULTURE – CLOUD 9: 037. [REBECCA JUDD] TAKEOVER.
As we rapidly approach our 40th edition of our weekly Cloud 9 segment, we have lots of surprises in store in the coming weeks, including guest curators and themed playlists. To kick us off, we have teamed up with radio presenter Rebecca Judd to bring us 9 of her favourite tracks from the past week or so. Rebecca started her career in radio when she was 18, joining a a community station in Stratford called Breaklondon, later moving stations to Westside Radio [89.6FM (LDN)] in 2015 where she presents drive time on Monday–Friday & present the only grime show on the station, Grime Sessions every Wednesday from 10am-12am. Talking on her choices for the list, Rebecca said; “Being such a lover of homegrown music, the 9 songs I’ve picked are all from London or just outside“. So sit back, plug-in and relax as we present;
L Ø S T C U L T U R E | Cloud 9: 036.
1. Jords – Way Back When
“Where do I start with this song?! It’s so capturing & special. Jords is a music artist that lets the music do the talking, you won’t catch him on social media everyday. Every track he puts out is a masterpiece, you can just tell the whole song has been well thought through and made with passion & love. Jords dropped a project 3 months ago entitled Means which is easily one of my favourite projects of the year. Hailing from South London, he pens personal experiences and executes them perfectly and without a doubt will take you on a musical journey”.
2. Sam Wills – Unify
“Such feel good vibes! I recently saw Sam Wills support Brandy at Indigo at the O2 and he was amazing. Of course I arrived late but was captured automatically buy his soulful vocals, I found myself touching my heart mid performance and shouting to my friend ‘HE’S AMAZING’. It is the final song taken from Sams So Bright EP. This is the type of music I feel I need to push to as many people, it deserves to be heard worldwide”.
3. Taliwhoah feat. Levelle London & SNE – Fast FWD
“Damn this is fire! 3 of the hottest up and coming artists from London have linked up and laid down a track that consists of smooth RnB vocals with a trap baseline. This song is also a free download, I’ve had the privilege of seeing all 3 of these music artists perform live & they sound as good as this track in real life. Taliwhoah, Levelle& SNE have a work rate no one can ignore, consistently creating music and making waves”.
4. Olivia Louise – Feelin
“Olivia Louise is someone I’ve been supporting for a long time, her soft vocals are one of a kind and I don’t know anyone with a sound like Olivia. She recently jumped on Danny Weed‘s grime instrumental ‘Creeper‘ and it is everything! I love the fact that Olivia Louise is not afraid to jump out of her comfort zone and experiment with any genre. Recently featuring on producer Davinche‘s brand new project VinchOnacci 2.0 with track ‘Faithful‘, I only predict big things for Olivia, She’s currently sitting on a lot of brand new music I’m so excited to hear!”
5. Rocket X Scorcher – Maikon
“Rocket of Splurgeboyshas joined forces with Scorcher & dropped a brand new collab project entitled Rocket X Scorcher EP. The project has just been released and consists of 8 tracks. After listening to the whole project ‘Maikon‘ is the song that stands out for me. Both music artists have been in the game since Channel U days so to see them still making TUNES in 2016 is good to see. Big project!”
6. Big Zuu – Kaleidoscope
“MTP member Big Zuuhas dropped a brand new tune ‘Kaleidoscope‘. Whatever Zuu puts out is a vibe, and ‘Kaleidoscope‘ is a tune you need to listen to loud and chances are you will want to pull it up before it’s even half way through. Late last year Zuu dropped ‘Ayo Techno‘ and it’s a song I find myself listening to at least once a week & with his latest SBTVWarm Up Session getting over 155 thousand views, his sound can’t be ignored. He is a MC that I expect massive things from this year. Recently witnessed him perform at monthly grime event at The Den, and this finalised my opinion of Zuu being in my top 5 MC’s list to watch out for in 2016″.
7. Rocks Foe – Make Things Work
“Produced by himself & previously being a guest on Grimesessions on Westside. I’m used to hearing Rocks FOE merk radio sets so to hear Rocks on a more chilled vibe is nice, Rocks is yet another MC you need to keep an eye out for. Everyone needs a tune like this on their playlist, this tune has plenty of quotable lyrics you can post on twitter haha!”
8. So Large feat. Ghetts – Sandwich
“You already know when you see So Large & Ghetts on the same tune it’s due to be mad! Produced by one of the hardest grime producers in the game right now, Filthy Gears, I’m a fan about of everything about this tune [even the title name because I’m always hungry haha]. So Large dropped an EP called 500 Grams late last year which is definitely worth a listen and as for Ghetts, he’s been dropping continuous bangers all year round. You need this tune on your gym playlist”.
9. MoStack – Ya Figa Deal Me?
“Love me some MoStack, just listen to this tune and you’re guaranteed to laugh or grin at least once. MoStack has never put out a tune I haven’t been feeling, he alway makes tunes that sound good in headphones & live! Yet, this track is another tune that has quotable lyrics for the twitter timeline. Produced by Steel Banglez.”
