Alex Crossan, better known as UK producer Mura Masa, has shared a new collaboration with A$AP Rocky. Rocky contributes a verse to a new version of Mura Masa’s ‘Lovesick Fuck’ and adds a different element and more energy that the original lacked. The beat is largely kept intact, but a few things like the saxophone are suppressed a little to make more room for Rocky. He flows over the steel drum and hip-hop beat about the trails and tribulations of love. Crossan is currently prepping his debut album as Mura Masa. It is due out next year via Anchor Point and Downtown/Interscope Records.
In the especially noteworthy second verse, he mentions a relationship he has had with someone in the industry. “And now we industry lovers / They making enemies of us / I mean sometimes we in public they drain this energy from us,” raps Rocky.
Mura Masa explained:
“Rocky was actually in London for a couple of days and I wanted to make him feel like I was taking the collaboration seriously, so I booked us in to Abbey Road, Studio 2, and we met up there for a couple of hours and he did his thing. It was a hell of a good time hanging out in such a legendary space with him, very surreal. The track originally was about sex and how I was feeling after a particularly empty encounter with a friend told through a kind of twisted-pop, calypso, hip hop dance track. Rocky kind of ran with that and took it to this lovelorn, exotic place. He totally injected his energy into it.”
