After the critical acclaim surrounding his 99.9% album, which culminated in Kaytranada receiving the coveted Polaris Prize, the Montreal-based producer has decided to release a new mix called 0.001% mixtape, which dropped last nighy. The 90-minute tape, serves up his signature stew of instrumental hip-hop, funk, soul, house and R&B but steers a choppier trip in comparison to the honey-smooth voyage of 99.9%, splicing together myriad samples and sounds for a kaleidoscopic finish.
Released as one singular track on his Soundcloud page, 0.001% spans genres far and wide, including bits of skittering jazz, icy chillwave, throwback soul, and even contemporary lite rock. The project is filled with a bunch of remixes, and it’s not surprising that the tape does recycle some beats from his previous collaborations with artists like Freddie Gibbs and Mick Jenkins, but it also includes his remix of Usher’s U Don’t Have To Call‘ and a new mix of Chance The Rapper’s Coloring Book track ‘All Night‘. Even if Kaytranada teased this release for the past few months, the wait was well worth it.
Strictly for Kaytranada fans
