London based rapper, AKS, took to the stage at the inaugural Unsigned Music Awards 2016, hosted by Laura Whitmore and Chris Stark . Nominated for 2 categories [Best Urban Act & Best Album/EP/Record] the three letter man narrowly missed out on walking away with a gong on the night, but took to the stage at London’s Troxy Theatre to deliver an soul stirring rendition of lead single ‘Stay with Me‘, taken from his recent Train of Thought EP, released at the end of May.
Accompanied by soulful singer/songwriter and collaborator, Sincerely Wilson, the two bounce off each other expertly to deliver a contrast of lush vocals against AKS’ raw emotive delivery, and it’s definitely something worth watching. On occasions such as these it’s really tempting for acts to go grandiose but shunning the full band set up that he’s been championed for on London’s live circuit, AKS opted to go back to Hip-Hop basics and called on producer of the track, DemDrums, for turntablist duties. There’s something pure and authentic about that; a DJ and his decks all they needed as a backdrop as AKS works the stage to ensure a captive audience. Add on an emotional newly added last verse, and ending in rapturous applause.
