Inspired by Joni Mitchell, Leonardo Da Vinci, Frank Ocean, Frederic Chopin, Esperanza Spalding, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill and Keith Jarrett, it is fair to say that London born singer/songwriter Izzy Flynn is not an artist who can easily be boxed. Having trained in jazz at Leeds College of Music, Izzy’s own style is a fusion of the freeform musicality of her learning and the structural accuracy of Da Vinci’s body series.
Alongside the Abstract Orchestra – an all-star Hip-Hop Big Band made of the finest musicians in the UK that have recorded and toured with the top acts in the world, Izzy Flynn has performed around the world. Most recently they supported Mos Def, De La Soul and Afrika Bambaataa. Primarily influenced by Electronic, Jazz and R&B styles, with rich harmonies and memorable melodies, Izzy Flynn’s dark, alluring, current sound has been likened to that of James Blake, BANKS and FKA Twigs. While she writes both the music and lyrics, she also performs all keyboard, synth, lead vocal and backing vocals herself. She is heavily involved in the music production and her own artistic styling.
‘Faith‘ is the lead single from a haunting, dark & ethereal new EP. Due for release on the 18th of November, the releae progresses from a minimal piano-vocal structure to a rich, textured piece of electronic bliss. Produced by one half of Majik and Dom from Submotion Orchestra, each musician has brought an element from their own artistic background. Izzy lays a crystalline piano foundation, while the two electronic maestro’s employ gloriously modulated chords and arpeggios resulting in a wonderful tapestry of futuristic sounds.
