Noname, Saba, Phoelix & Chelsea Reject Team Up For ‘Counterfeit’
As the local Chicago scene has emerged on the national scale, many from around the city have bided their time, creatively helping those artists get to those heights, growing alongside the performers. Perhaps the most consistent and dependable of those crews has long been 119 Productions, a sort of full-service creative shop that has helped document the rise over the last few years through documentaries, music videos and compilation projects that spawn hit singles.
‘Counterfeit‘ produced by Phoelix and featuring a cross-section of Chicago’s biggest names in Saba and NoName, pitted across from NYC-based Chelsea Reject. Over a chilled-out beat, Noname sets the tone with her typically effortless, poetic flow before Chelsea kicks the intensity up with an urgent delivery as she rattles off a series of hopeful lines. It’s a testament of sorts to the kind of interesting collabs the guys from 119 have been piecing together for several years now, including their recent jaunt, ‘Vices‘ which paired King Louie with Dally Auston and theMIND.
The track is emblematic of Countdown’s features as 119 has brought together some of Chicago, Brooklyn, and beyond’s best up and coming emcees and producers not only to put y’all on to some amazing new music, but to bring awareness to some great causes as well in a time when they need help the most. Their collaborative project, Countdown to Midnight is due out in December.
