The Death of 2016

Like Love Haha Wow Sad Angry

Well here we are, we made it. Just. After what seems like a whirlwind 12 months, we have reached the final day of 2016. As we look forward to New Year plans and what 2017 will hold, there comes a time to reflect on the year we have had. 2016 has widely been recognised as a “bad year” [to put it lightly!] and thanks to political shockers to celebrity deaths, that hasn’t been a bad adjective at all. So without sounding completely glum, we have rounded up all the bad things that we have had to deal with in 2016.

N.B: All of the points are summarised and are not prioritised or ranked

  • David Bowie died
  • #OscarsSoWhite
  • The shooting of Harambe the gorilla
  • The UK voted to leave the European union after 43 years
  • Exploding Samsung S7 phones
  • Prince died
  • Orlando nightclub shooting leaving 50 dead and over 5 wounded
  • Zika virus affecting the Rio Olympics
  • Alan Rickman died
  • Bastille Day Terrorist Attack In Nice, France
  • The “Killer Clown” phase
  • Gene Wilder died
  • Global temperatures reached a record high and Artic ice reaching dangerous lows
  • The Syrian conflict
  • Mohammed Ali died
  • The Refugee crisis across the Middle East and Europe continues
  • Hurricane Matthew

  • Chapecoense plane crash
  • George Michael died
  • Video sharing site Vine shut down after 3 years
  • Terrorist attack at a Berlin Christmas Market
  • Carrie Fisher and her mother Debbie Reynolds died within the space of two days

But, in a year dominated by negativity, there was some glimmers of greatness;

    • Africa was declared free of Ebola
    • Giant pandas are no longer endangered
    • The viral Ice Bucket Challenge led to a breakthrough in ALS research
    • A homeless man foiled a bomb attack in New Jersey
    • SeaWorld will stop breeding captive killer whales

See you on the other side…
