Surprise albums are relatively popular in the Pop/R&B/Hip Hop arena’s as of late. Beginning with the Beyonce LP in 2013, fellow Roc Nation affiliate J Cole piggybacked the trend with his last album 2014 Forest Hills Drive released December of that year. 2016 however, has been pretty quiet for the MC, until now. A new LP by the name of 4 Your Eyez Only has just become available for pre-order via iTunes with a provisional release date of December 9th via Dreamville/Roc Nation. The album is 10 tracks long but the names of them are yet to be revealed. Pitchfork have reached out to the Dreamville camp but as of now no official confirmation has been announced.
Unless you caught J. Cole at a music festival or bumped one of his feature verses—you can count all from 2016 on one hand—you probably thought the guy went ghost this year. The 31-year-old rapper from North Carolina pulls back the curtain tonight with the release of his new documentary titled Eyez. The 40-minute doc takes a look at Cole’s life since 2014 Forest Hills Drive and what he’s been up to in the studio. It should come as no surprise to anyone that the rollout is a TIDAL exclusive, considering the North Carolina MC’s status as Jay Z’s protege. But never fear. The “Eyez” documentary is available for members and non-members alike.
