‘Reciprocate‘ is the third installment from Rationale’s upcoming Vessels EP, which doubles as another beguiling hybrid of funk, disco and soul infused into an 80s-tinged production we’re beginning to expect from the Zimbabwe-born Londoner. The track pumps up slowly before that chorus drops to seemingly epic levels, with Rationale playing with his voice in a manner that communicates not only his distinct sound but a sense of pure enjoyment. More confident with every release, and more vibrant than anyone else out there.
“The aim with ‘Reciprocate’ was to create a song that was fun to produce, but also that’s really danceable.” explains Rationale, continuing “It’s a hard feat to achieve but I think it works really well. It’s about that feeling of being in a relationship with somebody and they’re not giving 100%, while you’re the person who continuously wants to make this thing work, and in the end just feeling a sense of frustration.”
Highlights of Rationale’s rise throughout 2016 included a phenomenal performance on Later… With Jools Holland, and the backing of high profile fans including Pharrell Williams, Elton John and Annie Mac. Furthermore, much of the new EP will able to be heard live in his forthcoming UK headline tour, which is virtually sold out minus a few tickets in Brighton, and concludes at London’s Heaven.
