Josh Kai releases alternative R&B debut project “The Awkward Boy”

The Awkward Boy” is the theatrical EP from rising singer/songwriter Josh Kai, who invites you into an innocent, yet dark world for his debut release. We received the visual for “Monsters” a few weeks back, which was an artistic but visual snippet of what this project entails. It certainly demands your attention, offering a cinematic edge-of-your-seat type of vibe. This is credit to Josh Kai‘s interesting vocal performances, which are flawless in tone but again haunting in nature. Equal credit also has to go to the production by Likkle Jay, who handled large portions of the EP alongside Josh himself.

Describing the theme/story, Josh tells us the tape is briefly:

“…an intense story of a boy who feels out of place, vulnerable and cold.”

A strangely familiar R&B sound consists throughout the project, which isn’t surprising considering Josh’s influences include Frank Ocean and Tyler, the Creator (Cherry Bomb/Flowerboy).  The South-East London talent certainly stands out from the crowd, bringing a unique way of telling a deep and uncomfortable story.
