A new week is upon us and there is no better way to celebrate than with some new music. Over the past fortnight, we’ve gathered the very best sounds from around the world and focused them into a 9-track compilation. The concept of this feature is to highlight the best music made available over the past 7 days, but we frequently cheat with the time frame due to so much great music being released (sorry?).
Outtakes from albums, single debuts and much more is in store, with a few big names such as Casey Veggies, Playboi Carti and Travis Scott, all featured this week. From YANG‘s heavy soulection vibes to Jean Deaux‘s house influenced R&B cut, we’ll keep you no longer as you dive into this week’s playlist!
Please Note: these songs are not compiled in any particular order.
LØST CULTURE – CLOUD 9 : 059.
Multi-talented musician YANG recently dropped her new track “Fruit“, which kicks off this week’s Cloud 9. Those familiar with the label, show and collective Soulection, will find a familiar style here from the Atlanta-based singer. Also a songwriter and producer too, YANG brings impressive neo-R&B and alternative pop vibes to the forefront, following up to her debut EP, “001” with some new grooves.
Jean Deaux has crafted a lane for herself, becoming a more recognised voice with every release. Early on, she may have best been known for her stunning vocals on the hooks of a few rapper’s album joints. However, the Chicagoan singer has more recently been hitting us with a series of infectious loosies and singles, catering to a fast-growing band of listeners and supporters. Produced by standout name ROMderful, “Energy” follows up Deaux‘s soulful 11-track project (listen here).
3. playboicarti – ++* love hurts ** + TRAVIS SCOTT *
Carti needs little to no introduction, collaborating with Travis Scott on his latest release, “love hurts“. The next-gen rapper has been kind of quiet since dropping his last official tape, previously hitting social media with an abundance of original music and covers. This was probably due to him waiting on his debut album, “Die Lit“, which came out a few days ago. Stream the single above now.
Philly native Armani White kicks up the tempo on Sango-produced freestyle “casablanco“, providing just over two minutes of straight bars. A mixture of punchlines and flows brings together an awesome release from the growing talent, who keeps showing up on his replay value drops. Offering strong personality, only time will tell what more the rapper has in store.
“Love Is Stronger Than Pride” is an alternative R&B outtake from the catalogue of NYC singer Amber Mark, who sonically delivers a lovely balance of contemporary and classic styles. Showing her varied range on impressive EP, “Conexao“, this tracks features alongside a whole host beautifully written songs and relaxing overall vibes.
SaveMoney is a staple collective of creatives and rappers in Chicago, with Sterling Hayes and Chance the Rapper combining on new release “Drowsiness“. This 5-minute art piece brings a few genres to the table, switching up several times over the course of the track. Borderline poetry, the vocals from both artists here ensure you don’t pull away. A focused and uninterrupted listen will certainly make you a fan of either rapper, that is if you weren’t already.
7. Casey Veggies – “Mirror On The Wall” (The Lost Tapes)
Casey Veggies has a name which frequently pops up in all spectrums of hip-hop, keeping a steady flow of music out and never shy to drop the odd single here or there for supporters. This addition to our list is kind of cheating, as it’s actually a throwback from of Veggies “Lost Tapes”. Still fresh and soulful though, check out the loosie above now.
Manchester’s The Mouse Outfit rep their city proudly and represent all of its splendour and talent. Taken from their brand new LP, “Jagged Tooth Crook“, the collective sees thriving songstress Iamddb and burgeoning rapper Kinkai do what they best on “My Mission“. The exact combination also appeared on the album, as the two teamed up for “Feeling High“, which received an accompanying visual on 4/20.
Already featured once on the site, we had to bring back Galactikäi’s standout record “Antinostalgia” with Zoe Kypri. Almost sounding like an acoustic, live performance, the smooth production and flawless vocals on this track can’t and shouldn’t go unnoticed. Deep vibes and semi-sombre lyrics feature throughout.
