Nike unveils 2018-19 Home Kit for FC Barcelona: Unites the city’s 10 districts
FC Barcelona and Nike unveil their 2018-19 home kit for next season, as this campaign of La Liga Santander came to a close this past weekend. Central midfielder and club legend Andrés Iniesta recently played his last game for the club, leaving as the most decorated Spanish football of all time (next club unclear).
Aiming to retain the title next season, Barça will do so in their contemporary uniform, inspired by the Camp Nou uniting the city’s 10 districts of: Les Corts, Sants-Montjuïc, Sarrià-Sant Gervasi, La Barceloneta, Sant Martí, Ciutat Vella, Gràcia, Horta-Guinardó, Nou Barris and Sant Andreu.
There’s a stripe on the shirt to represent each district, all arriving at an even width for the first time. Previous kits featured chunky vertical stripes, faded sunet designs or even horizontal stripes once, however this one is perhaps closest to the club’s historic season of 2011.
Nike Football‘s Apparel Senior Design Director, Pete Hoppins, explains:
“Barcelona is a place where the football club is absolutely fundamental to people’s lives,” explains . “Iniesta is an icon and a hero to the people who live in those districts, so I think it’s very apt he will get to wear the new kit for his final game for the club.”
