Nike x Skepta Air Max 97/BW SK “To Paris, With Love”
The success of his multicolored SK AIR 97 sees Skepta team up with Nike once more, for a stab at another successful sneaker release. Named the “To Paris, With Love” colourway, a red, white and blue variation is applied to each respective foot on the updated Air Max 97 BW silhouette.
His first collab with the brand was inspired by the city of Marrakech, so he decided to continue this theme and tie it in with another city he loves. The colours are inspired by a few things, including the French flag and the Le Jardin Majorelle villa, which was created by a French painter in the 1920’s.
Skepta tells Nike:
“I initially wanted to have padlocks on the shoe, inspired by punk rock. I remembered the bridge in Paris, where people go to ‘lock’ their love with someone they love. That’s why I’ve decided to launch the shoe in Paris and involve the people and the city who have shown me love since the beginning”
This slightly cleaner and more adventurous design sees the pair arrive with white premium leather overlays throughout. Other details include durable mesh from the Air Max TN, adding reflective vamp panelling and designing a logo that pays homage to the Air Max Plus symbol. Designed in the shape of a UK electrical plug socket, square holes at the laces match this concept.
Also harnessing flexible laces, Skepta wanted the pair to remind people of shoes that were available whilst growing up in the grime scene.
