Kojey Radical unleashes exclusive short film for “WATER” ft. Mahalia
Kojey Radical showcases more of his creative ability in his latest music video for new Mahalia featured single, “Water“. The East London rapper packages the emotive piece as a touching 9-minute short film, which sees him once again bring high quality art into his music. The meaning of the song already stood as a powerful statement, however now this overall project is tied together beautifully.
The opening credits are narrated by close collaborator and friend Michaela Coel, who offers impactful spoken word in her delivery. The visual’s first half mainly shows Kojey and a mixed cast give an energetic performance over earlier release, “If Only“. This is followed up with more powerful choreography, switching up the style for current single “Water“. Visually unpicking the song’s themes of angst, social oppression, and societal privilege, check out the video above now.
Speaking on the visual, Kojey quotes;
“This visual represents a lot of things for us. It’s the first visual I’m releasing this year and it’s always been our aim to push the boundaries of our creativity.
I was luckily enough to be raised by a family of strong females – Craig, my director, also – and we wanted to make a visual that was heavy on representation not only just for women but also to create and elaborate on conversations on black masculinity.”
