Threats Involved: Why it’s good J. Prince ended the Pusha T & Drake beef
Fans of the culture and fans of both artists were disappointed when news broke that Rap-a-Lot Records CEO, Houston legend and Drake‘s OG, J. Prince, had put an end to the back and forth exchange with Pusha T. His reasoning was clear, articulated in detail across several interviews. He felt the beef was getting too disrespectful, personal and was escalating to a point where families and lives may be destroyed.
One validation for this notion, was a currently unreleased diss track that Drake had apparently cooked up in response to Pusha‘s savage rebuttal, “Story of Adidon“. The OG says it was “out of character” for Drizzy and could seriously impact Kanye West in particular. Many suspicious bystanders don’t believe this to be true, however, one thing that is very real is the threats now involved in this beef.
In a recent interview with Billboard, Prince revealed to the interviewer, William E. Ketchum III, that he had just received a serious threat which read:
“Keep Pusha T’s name out of your mouth.”
Your first thought is probably – “this isn’t all that serious” – however Mr. Prince then goes on to explain how the text also contained the addresses of a few people he knows. So, in the words of the man himself, we don’t want this enjoyable beef to go left and result in a ‘Biggie and Pac situation’. Albeit, J. Prince remained somewhat unconcerned, further explaining if things do go that far, he’s the wrong person to mess with.
The internet, along with many personalities slated J. Prince for ending the beef early without letting Drake respond. However, maybe de-escalating things was the right call here?
