Chanel is Launching their First Makeup Line for Men
Despite the surge in popularity of men wearing makeup, makeup designed specifically for men is a new concept in beauty. Tom Ford and Clinique have played with products for men, but Chanel just launched their first male makeup line.
Boy de Chanel includes three products, a tinted fluid, coming in four colours; a matte moisturizing lip balm, and four shades of eyebrow pencil, WWD reports.
The fashion houses’ Boy franchise already features products such as handbags and perfumes. It is also named after Boy Capel, the lover, and muse of Gabrielle Chanel.
“Just as Gabrielle Chanel borrowed elements from the men’s wardrobe to dress women, Chanel draws inspiration from the women’s world to write the vocabulary of a new personal aesthetic for men,” the company said in a statement.
“Lines, colors, attitudes, gestures….There is no absolutely feminine or masculine prerequisite: Style alone defines the person we wish to be.
“By creating Boy de Chanel, its first makeup line for men, Chanel reaffirms the ever-changing codes of an unchanging vision: Beauty is not a matter of gender, it is a matter of style.”
It is perhaps worth mentioning that many men who want to wear makeup may well have already been using the company’s signature line for years and years. Yet this is the first time that the brand has created make-up products specifically for men in its 108-year history.
The initial collection will first launch in Korea on September 1. It will then roll-out internationally to e-commerce platforms and in boutiques between November and January.
