Over the past few years, Instagramhas been rolling out various shopping-related features, but now it’s reportedly going all in.
According to The Verge, the Facebook-owned platform is working on an application that will allow users to brows and purchase goods from businesses they follow.
With no official announcement that it will even launch, the new app is possibly still very early in its development.
Instagram has been making it very clear that they see a future in e-commerce.
Over the course of this year, IG has been releasing different shopping tools to companies. It rolled out shopping tools to eight countries, allowing more merchants to display their products’ prices on their posts.
A couple of months later, IG allowed merchants to add electronic payments, allowing followers to book appointments in-app. And this June, it began allowing some brands to sell products in the Stories section.
It would not come as a surprise that the company is truly developing a shopping application. Considering a lot of businesses, especially those catering to a young audience, already maintain an Instagram account, IG can challenge e-commerce platforms like Shopify.
