Here’s How The World Reacted to Kaepernick’s Nike Ad

Colin Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, is the face of a new advertising campaign by Nike despite not having played in the NFL since 2016.

Kaepernick was a quarterback in the NFL for six years but aroused controversy by taking a knee during the national anthem. He was protesting against social injustice and police brutality in America.

Nike’s new ad campaign not only featured the footballer but hinted at Kaepernick’s political stand with their tagline: “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.”

In disagreement with the sports brand, many people posted pictures and videos of them burning the company’s products on social media. Many used the hashtag #boycottNike and #justburnit.

As a vocal critic of NFL players’ “take a knee” protest, President Trump has also weighed in on the Nike discussion.

In an interview with The Daily Caller, Trump said. “I think it’s a terrible message and a message that shouldn’t be sent. There’s no reason for it.”

For Nike, Fortune reported that their stock took a 3.2 percent hit following the announcement of the brand’s endorsement deal. Yet despite the split opinion, the endorsement contract could see Kaepernick get his own line of apparel, shoes, and accessories, much like top athletes such as LeBron James.
