Spotify is Welcoming Artists to Upload Music Independently

Earlier this month Spotify revealed that it was working on a direct licensing deal with independent artists.

Now the streaming service announces that it will be beta-testing a new feature. This new feature will allow artists to upload their own songs directly to the app.

The current route for independent acts is typically through third-party companies such as Stem, Distrokid and Tunecore. This route often makes it difficult for artists to take full control of their own work.

Spotify’s deal, however, may cause problems for the above third-party companies when artists start to take control.

Let us know if you think this deal is a step in the right direction for music artists below.
