The Cliff House, designed by US studio McCall Design and Planning, sits within rugged granite boulders that overlook Idaho’s Payette Lake.
The natural context informs the design of the property, which is notable due to its location. The five-bedroom house is based upon a steep slope in a wooded area. The landscape determines the layout of the home’s three levels as they step down the hillside.
Floor-to-ceiling windows wrap around the space, providing the main social areas with amazing scenic views. The planning of the building allows the rooms to benefit from double exposures to the wooded scenery. This creates the illusion of being outside whilst inside.
On one side of the main level is the master suite. The architects describe this spaces a “sophisticated treehouse for grown-ups” amongst the hillside trees.
From the living room, a circular staircase leads down to the den, where you will find a bar and game room. An exposed boulder is visible here, reinforcing the connection to the site.
