BFI to Screen Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith backed movie ‘Sprinter’
The BFI are set to continue spotlighting films by and for people of Africa by expanding their African Odysseys programme. Part of this initiative will now include the screening of Sprinter. The movie, which is backed by Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Overbook Entertainment imprint will debut in the UK on February 16th at 14:00 pm.
Following the airing, prominent artist / activist Akala will chair a Q&A that includes director Storm Saulter, lead actor Dale Elliot and producer Rob Maylor.
Sprinter tells the tale of Akeem (Dale Elliot) and his rise to prominence as Jamaica’s track and field star. However, the young star faces obstacles with a troubled and violent home life that could threaten everything. Rob Moylor highlights the films deep roots in Jamaican experiences.
“It’s a universal story authentically rooted in the Caribbean’s diasporic experience while lifting the veil on Jamaica’s renowned track-and-field culture. We’re excited to present a rarely seen side of Jamaica while crafting an entertaining, coming-of-age journey the region and diaspora are rallying behind.”
