Freddie Gibbs & Madlib hints “Bandana” release date

With one of the most hotly anticipated albums in recent memory set to drop this year, we finally have a release date for Freddie Gibbs and Madlib’sBandana“… sort of.

The collaboration album was initially earmarked for an April release, but on Nadeska Alexis’ Beats 1 show, Newer York, she announced it was to be released in May. What exact day, we still don’t know but it still lines up the album to be on summer rotation.

It’s not the first time the two have linked up, back in 2014, the duo dropped their critically acclaimed “Piñata” LP. It was heralded as one of the best albums to come out that year and as we near 2020, it’s definitely one of the best of the decade.

The album featured cuts such as “Deeper”, “Thuggin” and “Real”, which showcased how Gangsta Gibbs and Madlib work so effortlessly well together. It’s crazy to think we’re getting a MadGibbs follow-up before we get a Madvillainy one too.

We’ve heard two singles so far in the form of “Flat Tummy Tea” and “Bandana“, both of which show the exquisite sound ubiquitous with what we’ve seen from Madlib in the past. The first bar on the former, Gibbs spits – “I beat the pot like Joseph beat Mike and Jermaine, one came out light one came out dark but they smoking the same”.

How can you not want to listen to more? He’s able to paint a picture of a grimy, drug-fuelled life that he’s lead and shows you it with humor, anger, and all at a breakneck speed. Freddie Gibbs is truly one of the better rappers we’ve been blessed to be able to hear.

This is without a doubt going to be one of the albums of the year, and you should keep your ear to the ground for it. Whilst you’re waiting. make sure you go check out Freddie Gibbs on the podcast here.
