Nike celebrates Brasil’s 100-Year Copa America Victory With White Throwback Kit
The first ever Copa America football tournament was hosted in Brasil exactly 100 years ago, a competition which the nation actually won on their own home turf.
At the time, the squad sported a now-iconic white kit, something much different from this generation’s dashing yellow/gold jersey. Nike is bringing back the traditional colours for the 2019-20 edition of the cup, where the likes of Neymar, Coutinho, and Arthur (all pictured above) will wear the jersey for their first match.
Describing the kit, Nike explains:
“Merging the early-1920s vintage feel of football with the modern style of contemporary sport, the special-edition Copa America jersey celebrates the 100th anniversary of that energetic moment.“
“White pays tribute to the historic 1919 trophy. A classic polo neck, player numbers and details on the sleeves are blue.“
There’s no official word on a wider release at the moment, but stay tuned for updates. Enjoy an initial look at the jersey above or be sure to comment your thoughts below. Also, visit the link below to explore more football and sports news.
