Nike celebrates LGBTQIA+ community with 2019 BETRUE Pride Collection
Inspired by the work of Gilbert Baker, who created, hand dyed and hand sewed the famous pride flag, Nike debuts their annual BETRUE collection including a massive variety of apparel and kicks.
Specially dedicated to the community throughout this month which honors our differences, the iconic six-color flag helped to shape this vibrant summertime sportswear collection. Partnering with the Gilbert Baker Estate to craft the special edition pieces, the delivery includes all sorts of footwear, apparel, and accessories – some including other symbols of Pride.
These symbols replace the original “BETRUE” bold lettering print usually applied to tees and shoes, however, the phrase still pops up throughout. Other standout details can be seen on the Hertiage Shoulder Bag or Spark Lighweight Crew Socks, which features a glitter sheen amongst many other items.
Sneaker options include an exclusive Pride version of the all-new Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%, rainbow flag-inspired Air Max 90 and more.
Pointing out some of their contributions to the community, Nike explains:
“20+: The number of organizations Nike is supporting this year to advance the LGBTQIA+ community through grants administered by the Charities Aid Foundation of America · $3.6 million: The amount Nike has provided in financial and in-kind support to LGBTQIA+ causes since 2012 · $1 million: The amount Converse has contributed to longstanding local and global LGBTQIA+ community partners since 2014“
